A retired or unused hearing aid could benefit someone who might otherwise not  have one.

There are several entities who accept donations of hearing aids.

The Center for Hearing and Communication (CHC)
www.chchearing.org
Accepts donations of worn hearing aids. It then refurbishes them for use as loaners while clients’ aids are being repaired. If the aids are relatively new, CHC will repair them and sell them at a reduced cost to those who qualify. If CHC sells a refurbished aid, the client is informed that the aid is not new.
